WNCSource serves Henderson, Transylvania, Polk and Rutherford Counties in Western NC through our programs in Early Childhood Education, Transportation, Housing and Older Adults services. We’re always looking for volunteers who can lend a hand with a variety of projects – big and small!
Here’s just a few ways that individuals or groups can make a difference!
Start your day with purpose by delivering meals—and a friendly smile—to homebound seniors.
Basic Duties: Deliver meals, smiles, and a quick friendly check-in
Physical Requirements: Carry coolers with food and supplies
Step in when needed to help deliver meals and supplies—an important, flexible support role.
Basic Duties: Transport meals to community sites and assist with deliveries to homebound seniors
Physical Requirements: Lift up to 50 lbs; vehicle provided
People age 60+ can come to the Lunch Plus program Monday-Friday from 9:30 a.m. to approximately noon for recreation, fellowship, outings, and a hot lunch. Volunteer instructors provide a short (15-30 minutes) activity of their choice for participants.
Basic Duties: Lead or present a program
Physical Requirements: None
Support our LunchPlus program by assisting the site manager with serving food, clearing tables, washing dishes and assisting our seniors. LunchPlus congregate meal and activities program meets Monday through Friday from 9:30AM to 12:30PM at the Silvermont Senior Ctr. (Brevard) or Quebec Community Ctr. (Lake Toxaway).
Basic Duties: Complete whatever the
manager needs

Early childhood education programs like Head Start, Early Head Start, and NC Pre-K help prepare kids (ages birth to 5 years) for kindergarten. Volunteers help out in the classroom, read to the children, rock babies, change diapers, manage supplies and keep centers clean and accessible for small children.
Basic Duties: Assist teachers in classroom and outdoor play areas.
Physical Requirements: Ability to walk, and lift up to 40 lbs.
A background check is required.
WNCSource is currently in the process of creating several outdoor learning environment playgrounds where children can embrace nature and grow their creativity. Volunteers will assist in organizing and cleaning up playgrounds located at WNCSource Childcare Centers in Henderson and Transylvania county.
Basic Duties: Light landscaping including raking, moving natural playground equipment, planting trees, and maintaining shrubbery
Physical Requirements: Able to lift 10lbs or more
Five days a week, WNCSource delivers meals, liquid nutrition and shelf-stable meal boxes to congregate meal sites and homebound seniors. Delivery drivers help transport bulk meals from Transylvania Co. Hospital for delivery to the Silvermont Mansion and Quebec Community Center, along with a few home deliveries from sites. Vehicle provided. Must be able to lift Cambro coolers that can weigh up to 50 lbs.
Basic Duties: Pick-up Cambro food boxes of prepared meals from Transylvania County Hospital for delivery to the Silvermont Senior Center and Quebec Community Center congregate meal programs.
Physical Requirements: Able to lift Cambro coolers weighing up to 50 lbs. Delivery vehicle provided.
WNCSource operates Tiger Town Thrift Store in Rosman, NC to help fund our work in the community. We need someone to help create unique Instagram and Facebook content including pictures, newsfeed, stories, reels, and IGTV. Work with managers to stay up-to-date with our thrift store intake, special finds and store schedule. Monitor FB and Instagram DM’s and respond to comments, inquiries.
Tiger Town is our thrift shop located in Transylvania County. They sell gently worn clothing, shoes, furniture, and antiques. Proceeds benefit our Older Adult programs. Volunteers are needed to help with customer service, pricing and general store maintenance.Be the friendly face of Tiger Town by assisting customers, organizing and displaying merchandise, and researching special finds. Your efforts ensure a pleasant shopping experience for our community and support our mission.
