Mobile Meals

WCCA operates the mobile meal program in the Rosman, Quebec and Lake Toxaway areas of Transylvania County. In 2014 4,092 hot meals were delivered to homebound seniors. These seniors strive to maintain their independence, often in the absence of family members who do not live here, and remain living in their homes. These hot meals delivered Monday through Friday by a friendly volunteer are often the only hot meal they eat a day. Each meal meets 1/3 of the daily recommended dietary allowance established by the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Science. Receiving a hot meal and having someone check on them is a comfort to the recipients and to their families. The cost per meal is $6.71 this fiscal year and this program is made possible by a Home and Community Care Block grant and private donations.
